Counselors send the Mirages who come through down there to acclimate themselves to their new ability in the sprawling range, whether it be against target dummies or targets for arrows or bullets or even against an old retired Driver named Griscol who still knows a thing or two about his Blade. But the sudden influx of Mirages has the Sparring Grounds overwhelmed and chaotic. As the counselors and Griscol scramble about trying to give their pupils pointers, Mirages can line up at the practice dummies, take a spot behind the firing line, or match up with each other to get some practical hands-on experience. One of the counselors has a healing Art, so anyone who gets hurt won't remain so for too long. Ask for tips, practice your arts, or get some sparring done with your fellow Mirages. Shnids are a pestilence and plague on Pumonia, and have been as far back as history exists. Looking like a cross between a squirrel and a rabbit and about the size of a medium-large dog, shnids devour crops voraciously and without restraint. Worse till, though they appear cute and harmless, shnids are savage aggressors who hurl themselves at any living being who comes near and deliver however many painful chomps with their powerful jaws are needed to send that other creature running. Consequently, the counselors at the Mirage Welcome Home always encourage new Mirages to take on the Shnid Hunt mission from the merc boards -- both because shnids are not terrible dangerous foes, and because sometimes new Mirages need to learn that even the cutest and cuddliest of Newase's wildlife won't hesitate to lunge for their throat, no matter how gently that Mirage is just trying to usher them away so no one gets hurt. Venture out into the vast, verdant fields of Pumonia, team up to take down ten of the beasts, and earn your first pay as a Mirage. Tumultuous storms roll off the sea with some frequency, part of why Pumonia is so fertile, but as residents depart for Tyrus and leave empty farms and plots behind, those storms bring a greater danger as well. A bolt of lightning has lit an abandoned house on fire, and despite the pounding rain the entire structures blazes brilliantly in the storm-dark twilight. The flames strain and leap, eager to jump from the roof and chimney of the house to the nearby barn, and from there into a knot of buildings around a broad river. Even with water pouring from the sky, the fire seems unstoppable... But this is Newase, and all things are governed by the ogre. One peeks out of the flames even now, a great mass about half the size of the building and all swirling energy. To call it the fire itself is both accurate and entirely wrong; it is the ogre that governs the spread of this fire, and should some heroes destroy it, the fire will no longer be able to spread... By day, the view through the windows of sonic railcar is an awe-inspiring sight. Terrain blurs past so quickly the eye can't resolve it. Great sections of the highlands where few have ever ventured on foot sprawls out, offering sights of exotic creatures and curious vistas nestled too far away for safety. Occasionally the train passes a Mech, a rare chance to see some of the hardest-working patrollers on Metta. But this one travels at night, so the countless miles flashing past outside are all uniform darkness. The cars are well-lit, making napping a struggle, but even so other passengers do their best to doze, huddled up against the windows with jackets or pillows over their eyes. Then the car jolts, and the ogre that is its heart gives out a grumbling little noise. Deceleration presses you sharply into your seats as the whole vehicle slows, not by braking or friction but by the will of the ogre itself. And then all is silent. "Best Rates for Mirages!" read the sign. "Finest hot springs in land! Fresh breakfast!" Whether because of the promises or simply the late hour and its convenience, you showed up at the front counter of this inn to receive a key from its helpful Nopon proprietor -- only to find yourself wedged into a tiny, dark room with an uncomfortable pair of beds and an involuntary roommate. But the hot springs are real -- considering the boilers that warm the water chug away constantly right next door, that fact is indisputable. Do you go enjoy them as the sole comfort your stay has brought you, or spend the night commiserating over what the 'fresh breakfast' is going to be? Newase is a grand place, and the isle of Metta vast and rich with opportunity... |

OOC
In canon, she's a genius savant that understands advanced physics and string theory like the palm of her hand (... perhaps more, given how much of a doofus she is), and reads at a lightning speed and so many books she almost uses it as a replacement for human interaction. She loves music and her motifs are violins and string theory, but ironically enough she is gifted in how much she sucks at playing the bloody thing.
She's shy, socially awkward, but can likewise make physical-mathematical equations in her head on the go. She's taken when she decides to isolate herself in the Clannad anime, so she's tried to get far from her home and past out of sheer fear.
So for this, I made her a mannequin-like Upload with violin motifs, that moves and sounds like clockwork and a viola organista, mostly to represent a little of how she's trying to get away from her home and her humanity. Kind of like a cuter version of Felix from the book Armor. Her weapons are a sword that has a slight line like a violin's bow, and a crossbow that looks like a violin.
Right now, I... am struggling with what sorts of arts could I give her. So far I have these four, but could use a few pointers and suggestions from those more versed in Xenosaga:
First Movement - Crossbow. Damages objects in its trail.
Reality's Song - Sword and Crossbow. Boosts Allies’ attacks, gives precision to projectiles.
Strings' Vibration - Sword and Crossbow. Debuffs enemies around her.
World's Resonance - Sword. Attacks three opponents at once.
Planned Arts | Do not reply
First Movement - Crossbow. Damages objects in its trail.
World’s Resonance - Sword. Attacks a single enemy, arcing to damage multiple opponents at once in a chain reaction.
String’s Vibration - Sword and Crossbow. Debuffs enemies around her.

Attack arts in the Xenoblade games usually have a conditional of some sort. Extra damage from behind or the side, or when buffed, or add a debuff to a foe. So a quick way to round out a list is to select a few Arts that have conditionals like that.
Buffs and debuffs are a great place to expand options as well. I like the musical motif you've got for her, so I think they're a pretty near place to expand. You could also give her a sort of self-healing Art, where her body gets a Regen sort of status?

Nephenee | Fire Emblem
A bit of canon info for those unfamiliar: Neph's the eldest child of a farming family in the village of Ohma in the country of Crimea. In the first game she was in (Path of Radiance), she was captured when the neighboring country of Daein invaded suddenly, but was rescued by the Ike guy and his ragtag mercenary crew. She decided to help out, and they beat the Big Bad. In the second game, she helped put down a rebellion and ultimately helped defeat the goddess of the land when said goddess decided to be a butt and try to wipe everyone out. Through the two games, she quickly became a powerful lancer, earning the Class of Sentinel, who are legendary lancers that straddle the line between DPS and tank fairly well.
Personality-wise, you probably wouldn't think that, though. She's pretty shy, though she's grown up through the wars, and quiet, but hardworking and loyal and stubborn. Being from the country, she has a heavy accent, and isn't very comfortable with it, thinking people will think she's lesser for it, or slow; it's combined with overall low-self esteem, though it doesn't keep her from acting if she must...Just let her keep her helmet on.
Canonwise, her abilities are as such:
Wrath: Increases the critical rate of the user by 50% when his/her HP is at a low magnitude (≤30%). Character skill.
Critical +10%: Grants its user a 10% bonus to his/her Critical rate. Class Skill.
Shove: Allows its user to push an adjacent target one tile away.
Impale: Allows its user to inflict four times the original damage onto a selected enemy unit. Class skill, Skill based (Skill/2, so roughly 17%).
Adept: Allows user to perform a consecutive attack (Speed% = 34%).
Cancel: Negates the enemy's next attack when activated (Speed% = 34%).
Basically, she's highly skilled and very fast and powerful. Obviously being in a new body will change that up!
Another canon thing I'd be interested in seeing if it'd work is the idea of Supports, which, depending on her friendship with someone, can give stat boosts to both people.
She'll be using a polearm and shield in her fighting, and be a human or Blade. So far I'm looking at either Path of Light (to show her resilience and relentless spirit), or Path of Eternity (for her fighting abilities), if she's human (I'm not sure if you can mix paths or not, though?). Blade will probably be Malos and Wind element.

Shirahoshi | One Piece
Some things her race can canonically do in the series (these are common "abilities" that set seafolk apart from what you might call an ordinary human):
Breathing underwater, via gills or whatever.
Naturally 10x stronger than a regular human (though natch this will vary with training, size, etc.)
They can speak to fish, up to the relative size of fish that matches their type (a minnow type mermaid can only speak to relatively small fish, for instance, while a whale shark type fishman could talk to anything the same size as a whale shark or smaller.)
Enhanced speed, particularly in the water. It is stated that there is nothing in the world quicker than a mermaid in water.
Shirahoshi herself has a latent power she only vaguely realizes is available to her, though I personally don't see her as thinking of it as an ability she can control. But when she's in extreme emotional distress, if she calls out, even the largest island sized Sea Kings will answer and come to her aid. Because the Sea Kings respond to the strength of her feelings, should she become furious enough to want to destroy the world, the Sea Kings would do it for her, sinking the islands of the sea and throwing themselves against the continent until it shatters. This ability is so powerful that it is known as the Ancient Weapon Poseidon. For this reason, those who know about this power have kept it a secret from her. She has, however, called on the giant Sea Kings twice in her life, once as a little girl, and again as a young woman. In her mind, she just thought they were very kind to respond when she cried out, and thinks that maybe because she's giant sized, or maybe because she's a princess, that that's the reason she can communicate with them (just like the rest of her people can communicate with fish of varying sizes). Shirahoshi is, in fact, quite even tempered, though she's easy to scare and has very tender emotions, which she wears on her proverbial sleeve. She is forgiving and curious, and though timid, she loves adventure and wants to experience the wide world in all its glory. In canon, she herself is giant sized, though for roleplay purposes I tend to size her down to roughly 6 ft in length.
I'd like to bring her in as a Blade. What follows are some thoughts wrt various aspects of kitting her out as an exploration support unit.
Weapon thoughts: Summons a school of fish (or variable type of fish depending on circumstances, like a swordfish or a flying fish), summons a bigger fish like a shark or a whale, summons a Sea King. The fish would "swim" through the air as if it were water (or possibly in the case of summoning a group of smaller fish, they appear in bubbles of floating water). I would pick one of those options, obviously. I'm currently leaning more toward "group of small fish" or "summon bigger fish".
Elemental water tricks (I'm assuming these are meant to be open ended and up to creativity/circumstances as needed); a fairly powerful shield (based on will, ether, power, all three of which I feel she'd have quite a bit of tucked away beneath her timid exterior.)
Need to pick two support arts
I am considering the following:
absorb damage
debuff cancel
draw aggro
nullify reaction (what does this even do???)
recharge boost
I'm not sure which of these would be most appropriate or useful, so any and all feedback here would be more than welcome.
I also have no idea what kind of specials to give her, though perhaps maybe the tier 4 would be analogous to summoning the island-sized Sea Kings? She's definitely summoning things or granting abilities to others, though, because she is not a fighter herself. She does appear in a mobile gacha game where her unit does regular healing and her special buffs the entire team, so maybe something along those lines could work in this format?
specials:
Tier 1 ??? (Grant a power? Do some healing?)
Tier 2 ??? (Summon a thing?)
Tier 3 ??? (Grant a bigger power??)
Tier 4 ??? (Summon Island-sized Sea Kings???)
And as for her Upgrade Path, I honestly have no idea which would be most appropriate for her, though I'm leaning towards either the Path of Development or Path of Pneuma.
Anyway, as you can see I'm very open to suggestions. Feel free to hit me up on plurk or discord if you'd rather a more chat based environment to brainstorm things, too.
Thanks guys!

Nullify reaction is for stuff like counterattacks. Hit a monster, it would ordinarily counterattack? Reaction nullified!
Specials generally work out to be damage, more damage, more more damage, tons o' damage, sometimes with a special effect like healing and so forth. So generally following that path works pretty well.

Domon Kashu | Human | G Gundam
[ Simple mission, right? Go take care of some wild animals. It'll be easy, don't worry. What could go wrong?
Well, Domon could have one of them dangling from his arm, teeth sunk past the cloth wrapped around his forearm and drawing blood.
He could also have another three more of these creatures circling around him, eyeing the martial artist with what might pass for evil intent amongst fluffy wildlife. ]
Why did nobody warn me about this?! I thought you had a racoon infestation, not a wolf pack!
[ He probably should have figured they wouldn't send Mirages off just to chase away some basically harmless pests, but here they are.
Although considering his situation, and his rather loud complaining, Domon doesn't really seem alarmed. More like he's trying to get it out of his system before things get really ugly. ]
b. Burning Ogre? I prefer God Ogre.
[ One of Domon's identifiers is the battered cloak he wears almost everywhere, a loyal companion that has served to protect him from the elements on his long journey.
That cloak isn't terribly useful with this amount of rain, the strong winds sending it veering wildly, almost threatening to pick Domon up and send him flying.
But he stands firm before the raging fire ogre. ]
I don't know if you all are supposed to be the avatars of nature itself or whatever, but I can't have you burning down people's homes like that! En garde, ogre!
[ Can they even understand his speech as he points dramatically at the giant creature? Who even knows? Certainly not Domon, but he feels like he has to try anyway. ]

[ says Moira as she swoops in from the side, having kept her distance up until this point. She really wasn't one to do actual fighting, leaving that to people who were more concerned about getting into the fray. ]
A small animal is a small animal no matter what shape it takes.
[ As much as she does enjoy the over the top shounen speeches, there's a time and a place for that. Usually, not now when there's things overbearing on them. She fires a short spray of biotic healing towards Domon, which should patch up any problems that he's having. Not like she found it necessary though, but she might as well. ]

[ Wolves being a particularly traumatic memory for Domon. He's over it now, mostly, but still his go-to reference for scary animals.
Still, he pulls the Shnid off his arm and tosses it to the ground, where it scampers off to join its companions in too many teeth. ]
I'd prefer not to kill them if possible. Do you have any objections to that?
[ The wounds on his arm have closed up thanks to the healing spray, and Domon finally takes a proper fighting stance, hands grasped into fists. ]
Doc Emmett Brown | Human | Back to the Future
[For the life of him, Doc can't fathom how he of all people ended up in this situation. He's an inventor, damnit, not a hot-blooded warrior! It's likely his just punishment for tampering with all those timelines.
After a grueling training session he's armed himself with a rifle he's fairly all right with using, an art he definitely hasn't mastered, and an overwhelming sense of dread. He glances over at his partner, trying to hide this.]
All right? Just a few smaller foes, nothing particularly serious.
b. derailed
[The trains are a true marvel---he's accustomed to much slower steam engines, something of this speed is truly amazing. Unfortunately, there's no sight-seeing to be done this time, but he can try to rest on his way to Asail and the MECHanist Institute.
That plan goes up in flames when the train suddenly stops. He rises on shaky legs and announces his intent, hoping their host will be kind enough to leave the lights on.]
We have places to be, and this could be trouble. I'm investigating.
c. wildcard
[Anything else? I'm game!]
A
[Waving one hand in the air, Zeke steps forward, lazily reaching over his shoulder for the grip of the massive greataxe on his back. His Blade skips along next to him, light and cheerful, as he pulls the weapon free.]
Be ready with that rifle, chum. I'm about to get their attention.

For all of a few minutes, anyway. It was too dark to see much, so she's been walking around, acclimating herself to the movements and feeling of the place, just in case.
And when the train lurches, she's thrown to the floor with a yelp. She manages to tuck and roll, and stays in a kneeling position as the train comes to a halt. Once it seems the train isn't going to move, she's up on her feet, and hears Doc's declaration. Summoning her weapon, she strides up, focused and determined.]

Kotomi Ichinose | Upload | CLANNAD
Kotomi rose an arm that sounded like a clicking marionette, as her visibly-jointed hand nested over the violin-shaped crossbow and the bow-shaped sword that had been assigned to her. Feeling their firmness no different from the new body she now inhabited, feeling every string mechanical component on it as that of herself, almost as if it was an artifact from her very body.
She turned the head of her new body to look beyond at the target, revealing metallic components behind and underneath her jaw, before turning back to her companion.
"I have read extensively about middle age weapons," her head clicks as she lowers it in regret, "but never used a crossbow before. I would like help."
No Rest in Capilong | Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep
It was easier sleeping as a machine. After walking past the hot springs with timidness, and then seeing her new room with surprising calmness, Kotomi only looked at what was in front of her as she finally found a place to rest.
While she wasn't entirely surprised about being paired with someone, it did frighten her a little at the prospect of meeting somebody new. The room echoes slightly when she turns her head to her new companion.
"Do you have books to read, or are there any nearby?" She asks, "I think we could go someplace else for the two of us."
The Fire Ogre | Baptism by Fire
Her entire body whirred into overdrive as the apparatus on her chest glowed like a sun. It took position as if by itself and out of Kotomi's own control.
She was supposed to have taken a support role in trying to assist whoever was coming to assist in whatever was happening this. She didn't want to risk her friends, but she was terrified of having them come to harm, not wanting the same horror of thinking a friend might not come back...
Somehow, that terror took over her body and whirred it into action as another program, eyes darting up and scanning anything out of order: The thunders that tore through the houses, the fire that spread, the tornadoes...
"Enemy target visualized. Proceeding as planned." The words came out with fear that had transformed into programmed action. She rose both her sword and her crossbow with beyond machinelike speed.

Weapon, not gun, one is for fighting and one is for fun
He has not however, seen one that basically looks indistinguishable from a young girl except for the part where she's made of (probably) metal and has exposed joints.
But his curious glances are interrupted when she speaks up, presumably asking him for help, and slightly embarassed about being a busybody, he has no choice but to respond.
"My specialty is a sword or my bare hands, but the School of the Undefeated of the East should have no problems working its way through all forms of weaponry!" In this arena, he's fully confident, at least.
And hey, he's used machine guns before, (while riding an 18m tall Gundam and aiming with his eyes and mind,) how hard could a crossbow be?

No Rest in Capilong
She sat in the center of her bed, elegant pink fin curled close around her, watching her new roommate with wide eyes and elevated heartbeat.
"I don't think so, not here, anyway," she said, glancing at the sparse furnishings. There's barely room for two beds, let alone anything else. "Um. But I wouldn't mind going out to find some! Are shops usually open this late at night?"

Zeke von Genbu | Xenoblade Chronicles 2 | Human Driver
Really, all anyone needed to do was look his way and catch his eye, because Zeke was feeling a little bit of energy today! Leaning here against this fence wasn't a lot of fun, even if he was watching all these other what'sits, Mirages, tamper with their Blades and swing around their weapons.
Zeke slapped hard against the fence with one hand, pushing himself off it. "I see you've got an eye for skill, friend," he said with a smirk, head bowed and his other arm lifted at a sassy angle so he pointed two fingers down at his sudden new acquaintance. "Your eye doesn't deceive! For I--" he jerked his hand back, those two pointing fingers now framing his eye in a V -- "am Zeke von Genbu! Bringer of Chaos! Do you dare try your skills against the ultimate weapon -- the Purple Lightning D--"
He grabbed the hilt of the greataxe slung behind him, yanked it free, whirled it above his head, and because it was not the Purple Lightning Dreamsmasher as his hands instinctively expected, promptly lobbed it through the air across the training field into one of the ranged targets, where it quivered to a sparking halt. Zeke made a distinct little 'eep' noise as he lifted his hands to his face, while beside him his Blade dropped her face to one hand.
"The ULTIMATE WEAPON!" Zeke reiterated very hastily, shooting across the grounds to yank the axe free, then racing back before the cloud of dust he'd kicked up in his haste could dissipate -- "The GENERIC GREATAXE OF DESTRUCTION! Is what you will test yourself against! If you dare, chum!" He swung it down in a very overdramatic fashion to emphasize the statement.
Bring it?
The Sonic Rail
"Well then." Zeke unfolded his leg, sitting up in his seat one hand coming up to block light from the window and shade his eyes as if looking out into the darkness would suddenly give him all the answers. "Now I may be new to this Mirage business, but my instincts tell me this isn't something normal."
Nothing outside. Nothing visible, anyway. Zeke drummed his fingers on the arm of his seat for a moment, then shoved himself to his feet with a calm, cocky smile for the poor person who'd been stuck opposite him for far too long a trip. "Well, I can't jolly well sit here and wait for someone else to solve our problems. Care to come see what's what with me?"
No Rest in Capilong
Zeke von Genbu sat on the bed, back pressed against the headboard. Not a flicker of motion showed in his one visible, shut eye, though the rest of his body vibrated in time with the banging and thumps that knocked against the wall behind him.
Zeke von Genbu was a pillar of calm, tranquility, and acceptance. This was life, unfortunate though it might be. The noise, the chaos, the shaking, the tumult -- they had to be accepted, for they couldn't be fought. They simply were. And so Zeke von Genbu would accept these things, set them aside, and sleep despite it.
Zeke von Genbu... lasted about five minutes tops before he grabbed at his head, let out a cry with a lot of n's and vowels in it, and collapsed onto the narrow sliver of floor between the two beds. "I can't DO it!" he cried, thrashing violently as he rolled back and forth. "No one can do it! It's bloody impossible! I'm going to hang that Nopon from a flagpole! I'll use him for sharkfishing bait!"
Training
"Well, Zeke von Genbu, Bringer of Chaos, I am Domon Kashu, the King of Hearts!" He raises his fist, where it would normally glow with his emblem but alas. New body, new rules.
"I may not have a Generic Greataxe of Destruction, but I do have the teachings of the School of the Undefeated of the East!" He declares, not needing any weapons to display his skills.
He may have used to have a reputation for being a sulky anti-social loner, but even back then there was always space for being a martial artist. It was all the other people that he could never understand.

The Sonic Rail (Want to pretend she's his Blade for a thread?)
"Y- you're asking me?" Shirahoshi tried not to blush because his sudden movement startled her, and really what was there to be startled by? People move. It was only natural. Then she turned her mind to the question at hand, biting her lower lip as she glanced out the dark window. Only her wide-eyed, uncertain reflection stared back at her, and as soon as she focused on it, she nodded.
"Alright," she said, taking a deep breath. She used a small piece of a special kind of coral to blow a large, floating bubble that would let her swim in the air, and smiled nervously at the Driver. "It'll be an adventure, right?"

But if she had been able to sleep deeply, Zeke's yell would have startled her completely out of it and had her lance either pointed near him or close by. Pellegri | Xenosaga | Blade Eater/Human/Potential Driver?
[ Pellegri still wasn't totally overjoyed with her new lot in life, and having beginner tips barked at her by rushed counselors wasn't exactly helping. She needed practice when it came to her new abilities, not instruction.
So when the next one graces her with a comment about her form when striking with her Glaive, it pushes her right over the edge. ]
I know the name Ormus means little here, but you would do well to remember it. Should you attempt this insulting hand-holding routine with another of its former officers, you would be met with far less patience than I am granting here.
[ Which earns her a somewhat confused, but mostly disdainful, glance before the counselor darts off to the next Mirage. She finds it aggravating, of course, but at least it probably got him off her back for the time being.
With that out of the way, she surveys the training grounds, looking for other trainees who don't seem to be under the counselors' thumbs. She's going to approach someone for a sparring match. ]
[ No Rest in Capilong ]
[ Pellegri hadn't led an extravagant lifestyle before coming to Newase, but she was used to a certain amount of comfort. This wasn't it. But, it was what she could afford, and the promise of a working hot spring brought her pang of nostalgia she couldn't ignore. So here she is, dropping her scant belongings on her creaking bed.
She gives the other bed a a passing glance before sitting down. Honestly, with the pensive mood she's in, she's not sure if a sudden roommate would help or hurt. Or if the two of them would get enough oxygen during the night with the door closed. But she decides not to worry about it yet, instead rummaging through her bag for something that might be appropriate to wear in the spring. ]
